CPCU^® Exam Updates – Study Material Revisions

Purpose of this page

The CPCU^®exams are revised periodically. The exams are revised and updated from time to time in order to keep the content up to date on current events and changes in the insurance environment.

This page will track the exam changes and provide insight into what is changing for each exam. If an exam is not listed on this page, then no revision is made to the study material. You can continue using your current study material for the exam.

October 2017 Update

The following exams are now testing on updated content:

CPCU^®551 – updating from 2nd edition to 3rd edition
CPCU^®552 – updating from 2nd edition to 3rd edition
CPCU^®553 – updating from 1st edition to 2nd edition
CPCU^®555 – updating from 2nd edition to 3rd edition
CPCU^®557 – updating from 2nd edition to 3rd edition

Effective January 2018, these exams will be based on the new study material. All exams prior to January 2018 will use the current study material.

What’s changing

The majority of the study material will be the same, here are the only changes being made to the new study material:

CPCU^®551 – updated content to address the changing insurance environment including topics such as virtual currency and increased cost of construction.
CPCU^®552 – updated content to address new commercial loss exposures such as unmanned aircrafts.
CPCU^®553 – updated content to address new loss exposures such as home sharing and unmanned aircrafts.
CPCU^®555 – updated content to address new personal insurance trends such as the going green initiative.
CPCU^®557 – updated content to address new topics such as unmanned aircrafts and terrorism coverage.

To do

If you have your study material and plan to take your exam before January 2018, then no action is needed. Your exam will be based on the current study material.

If you have your study material and plan to take your exam after January 2018, check your study material and make sure you have purchased the appropriate edition. If you have the wrong edition, contact your study material provider in regards to a refund or exchange for updated study material.

If you do not have your study material and plan to take your exam after January 2018, make sure you purchase the correct edition.

AssociatePI Course

If you are enrolled in an AssociatePI CPCU^® 555 course, we will be automatically updating our course to reflect this change before the January 2018 testing window. Your course will automatically reflect the update, you will not need to do anything.
