My Favorite ARM™ Exam Study Resources
I use a lot of various resources in my studying. These are resources I use when studying for my ARM™ exams. These are resources ranging from ARM™ online communities, to ARM™ flashcards, to calculators. This is my list of everything I use to help me pass my exams:
ARM™ Audio Book
This is my biggest tip. Use this audio book to pass your ARM™ exams. The audio files are extremely helpful; this is the only audio version of the ARM™ study material that I can find.
I love these audio books; I use it all the time on my commute to work. Makes studying much easier, I highly recommend listening through a couple times to memorize the content.
ARM™ Study Material
There are a number of great resources across the web that sell ARM™ study material. There is no right or wrong choice; it really depends on your study preference. We recommend the below study material:
I also recommend you download our free ARM™ practice exams. Completely free, this will give you a sense of how difficult the exam questions will be on the ARM™ exams.
ARM™ Blogs
The following are blogs and websites that I referred to in my studying (and some that I wrote after studying), these helped me get a better understanding of what I needed to study, how long to study, and what to expect from each exam:
- AssociatePI Blog – ARM™ 400 Difficulty
- AssociatePI Blog – ARM™ 401 Difficulty
- AssociatePI Blog – ARM™ 402 Difficulty
- AssociatePI Blog – Three Reasons To Pursue The ARM™
- AssociatePI Blog – Everything You Need to Know About The ARM™ Designation
- The Institutes – Overview of designation
- The Institutes – Program requirements
- AB Training Center – About The Designation
- Prometric Testing Center – Schedule Your Exam Here
- Insurance Forums – ARM™ Designation
- Insurance Journal – ARM™ Designation
ARM™ Flashcards
I love using flashcards. Without flashcards, I probably would not have passed my exams. In this section, I want to provide you with a couple flashcard resources that will help with your studying for the ARM exams. These are ARM Flashcards that I use for my studying.
Reddit Community
I was very active in the Reddit community during my exams. Particularly in the r/insurance subreddit, this is a great place to ask questions and talk to other people in the insurance industry that have earned their ARM™ designation. It’s a great place to learn from others that have taken these exams, I learned a lot about what to expect on the exam, what to focus on, and got some great tips on proper study methods.
Institutes Community
The Institutes has its own community. I didn’t use this community as much as I participated in the Reddit Community, I find that it was not as active, but this is still a great place to post questions about the exam and talk to other ARM™ designees.
Calculator
You are allowed to bring a calculator to your exam. I personally recommend this calculator, the BA II Plus financial calculator.
If you plan to bring your own calculator to an exam, you MUST print and bring the “calculator policy” portion of this confirmation notice published by The Institutes to the testing center to verify The Institutes’ criteria for an acceptable calculator. Information regarding the appropriate guidelines and detailed requirements of acceptable calculators can also be found within the publication.
Conclusion
These are some of my favorite resources for the ARM™ exams. But trust me, there are many more out there! Sometimes it just takes a little digging and deep googling. If you have any other resources that you recommend for the ARM™ exam, please send them over to us, we would be happy to update this blog with more resources.
